Enter the world of Miu Miu: Miuccia Prada’s unrestrained portrayal of creativity.
Beginning in 1993, Miuccia felt the need for an outpost to display her unconventional spirit. At Prada, her traditional aesthetics of simplicity and utilitarianism shine through. Her creations under Miu Miu, however, are spearheaded by topics of redefining femininity and tangibly expressing female energy.
Just this past week, Miu Miu was laurelled as the Brand of the Year by Lyst. Previously held by two brands who are currently in the spotlight for vastly different reasons, Gucci and Balenciaga, Miu Miu’s youthful touch drove it to glory. Her mini skirt and ballet flats made people go ballistic upon release, turning everyone into wannabe ballerinas for a few months.
Below is a list of four garments from the brand that are turning heads. Miu Miu has had a shortlived career thus far but is expected to sit in the limelight for the foreseeable future.
THE MIU MIU SET
At this point, there’s an Instagram account for everything. Sports, fashion, music, fitness, wellness, even an egg, for f*cksake. However, upon the explosion of Miu Miu’s Y2 K-inspired set, it joined the egg in the social media hall of fame by having its very own Instagram account.
The cropped set from Miu Miu begins at the top with a dress shirt that features a standard collar and buttons. The arms are pretty mundane, looking like every other dress shirt on the market. But I should have mentioned when I say buttons, I mean 4. The top is cropped just below the pics of one of the male models sporting it, exposing the wearer’s midriff in its entirety.
Down at the bottom is a pleated skirt that has been knocked off more times than England found the back of the net against Iran. Paired with a thick brown belt, the look quickly became beloved by young fashion lovers everywhere.

BALLERINA FLATS
A distinct style within the Miu Miu catalog is the ballerina flats. Taking off this year, the elegance and class paired with unmatched craftsmanship turned the shoe into the chic version of the Birkenstock Boston.
Branding is subtle on this, predominantly found on the outer portion of the forefoot strap. The bow on the toe is a playful and feminine detail that Miuccia fails to miss with each release.

TRENCH COATS
Continuing the trend of powerful feminine topics is Miu Miu’s trench coats. Miuccia mixes classic, refined colour schemes with subtle details such as ivory buttons and gold accents. Whereas other pieces, such as the one above, redefine what it means to dress femininely. Abrasive patterns, dark colour schemes, and belligerent cuts have been a theme since the brand’s conception.

SPORTY TRACKSUITS FROM CRUISE 2018
Miu Miu has played a role in redefining feminine wear with their tracksuits from 2018. Some bottoms were tailored fairly short, while others maintained their full extension, appearing more like a romper turned tracky. Each colour gave off a vintage feel, giving off a high energy and positive feel. Classic, almost race-like logos donned the right sides of each, giving off a bit of a sexy, pit crew vibe to each set.
