Dior Men’s Fall 2021 Taps Into The Zeitgeist Of The 1990s.

The collection began with a bright cosmic background, as a Dior-inspired Eurobeat song played throughout. Legendary 1980’s artist Kenny Scharf’s influence on the collection was apparent, as many of the pieces, including the suiting, knitwear and outwear all featured his iconic designs. The show expertly adapted to being filmed for an online audience, with each model getting their closeup, revealing an abundance of jewellery in the process. The jewellery, designed by Yoon Ahn included pull tab-style earring and a lighter necklace. The models all sported 90’s style haircuts including space buns, middle partings and dyed-tips in all sorts of colours.

This collection captured the slim fit suiting which has become the bedrock of the Parisian brand. This time, Kim Jones had the models wearing belted suits, giving off a tailored trench coat impression. Alongside this were a number of double-breasted blazers in an array of colours, many featuring the flashy work of Kenny Scharf. The collection is an ode to Kim Jones’ talent, being able to both represent the signature aspect of Dior while putting an entirely new spin on it.

Dior did not slouch on footwear either, with a number of models wearing bright leather hiking boots, in both cherry red and arctic blue. Some of the models, adorned in silk pyjama style trousers, wore slippers with an all-over Dior print, making the idea of working from home in 2021 that little bit more appealing.

For accessories, Dior continued with its famous Saddle bag, both in the signature Dior print as well as some featuring Kenny Scharf’s art. Kim Jones also sent models down the runway carrying small but beautifully crafted leather pouches.

Fashion insiders praised the collection, Jian Deleon tweeted out that it was “Cool to see Kenny Scharf getting his (flower emoji) at Dior.” Fashion writer Marc Richardson also praised Kenny Scharf’s influence in the collection, sending special praise to the printed cummerbund. Fans of Robert Pattinson were a little disappointed though, as he didn’t make an appearance despite being announced for the show.
