We opted for some treats this season – from ‘FRANKENSTINE’ featuring A$AP ROCKY, to NEW MAGIC WAND by Tyler, you’re not going to want to miss this one . Happy Halloween!
ANA
NEW MAGIC WAND – TYLER THE CREATOR
Spooky season is officially here, and with it comes our favourite dark tunes to listen to. Let’s be honest, Tyler’s IGOR album is a must all year round, but the rapper’s personal favourite, NEW MAGIC WAND would definitely be considered to fit within the genre of horror, if there was one. With this song, Tyler the Creator takes us through a terrifying masterpiece of vulnerability with lyrics such as “Sometimes you gotta close the door to open a window”, combined with its violent baseline, screams and frantic rhythms that send shivers down your spine whilst listening to this sombre hymn.

ROBYN
INSANE IN THE BRAIN, CYPRESS HILL
Against witches, ghosts, goblins, and possessions, the scariest thing anyone can be for Halloween is insane. In Cypress Hill’s “Insane in the Brain”, they detail their slow descent into insanity, referencing Son of Sam among other notorious psychos for inspo. The track itself is actually pretty chill, replacing traditionally Halloween-style creepy piano music with disc slips and a vibey bass. Don’t be fooled though, “Insane in the Brain” is an underappreciated Halloween classic. If the definition of insanity is doing something over and over again, my listening to this song on repeat the last few days might be a sign of something…
TIMOTHY
SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA – FRANKENSTEIN (FEAT. A$AP ROCKY)
On July 19th, 2019, Virgil Abloh debuted “Frankenstein” during his DJ set at the Melt Festival in Germany. Abloh said as he was about to play the song, “With this we’re gonna get Rocky home right quick, let’s go. Pull out your phone, record this one, this a very rare one.”
The creepy production of “Frankenstein” allows Rocky to channel himself as the wicked doctor through his vocals. After comparing himself to Dr. Frankenstein and distastefully insulting other rappers, the beat fades out in which Rocky employs a distorted voice to call out the “ungrateful” artists who don’t acknowledge his contributions to hip-hop. “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you,” he snarls, before picking up the pace to match the beat.
Eerily enough, the track is produced by Swedish House Mafia, having been teased while Rocky was locked up in Swedish prison, weird right?!

SAM
GHOSTFACE KILLERS – 21 SAVAGE (FEAT. TRAVIS SCOTT)
21 Savage’s without ‘Without Warning’ is a timeless masterpiece. The album released around halloween back in 2k17, what a time to be alive that was.
With Savage’s upcoming collab album with drake set to release over the next few days, it only seemed right to include this banger for this months playlist. I know it’s not necessarily a ‘Halloween’ song, but those bells in the intro are fairly spooky – right? Plus it the perfect crowd pleaser for any parties this Halloween, you’re welcome.
AVA
SPOOKY – QUINTEN 909 EXTENDED REMIX BY DUSTY SPRINGFIELD.
I have never known something so spooky, to be so groovy. The manipulation of the classic Dusty Springfield song brings us a genuine treat (or trick?) The song calls upon something which can be truly terrifying – and that is dating someone who never fails to give someone else ‘the eye’…
This garage-esque remix turns the lyrics on their head, allowing the listener to forget the nerve wracking, palm sweating dating scene and simply enjoy the music.
Bop your head, tap your foot and happy listening.

CHIOMA
BIG BLOOD MANSION – LUCY LOONE
If you want a spooky alt-pop song then Lucy Loone’s got you covered – just take a look at the track title. With the creepy but thrilling opening lines and laughter track of the song to the incessant ethereal hums and chants in the background of the pop beat, Lucy Loone encaptures the spirit of creepiness and gory horror mixed with the retro coquette aesthetic. If you’re in doubt just check out the deranged bloody music videos, with just enough sweetness and modern pop beats to get us hyped. If you want a track to add to the Halloween House Party playlist, I would suggest this one.
MARCUS
ANTIDOTE – TRAVIS SCOTT
For me, nothing screams Halloween more than Travis Scott’s Antidote. John Carpenter and his composition for Halloween is up there alongside some other bangers from the 2017’s. However, Antidote is one of those tracks that sets the mood for an eerie weekend fully of surprises. The popularity of the song makes it a sure fire house party opener to get people off their feet. Nevermind the drowsy beat that progressively encroaches on your state of mind.
