CULTED Roundtable EP2: Sustainability and COVID-19 | Ft. Peter Dupont & Brook Roberts Islam.
Hi everyone it’s Pavel and welcome to a new episode of CULTED’s ROUNDTABLE series.
In this new series, we dive into all aspects of the fashion and arts world with industry insiders.
For our first few episodes we are exploring the future of fashion, and considering how the industry might change in order to cope with this global pandemic.
The fast moving fashion industry as we know it has been forced to pause due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Today we’re taking a look at what the future holds for sustainability in fashion and we will be joined by our special guests: model and climate activist Peter Dupont and fashion tech and sustainability journalist Brooke Roberts-Islam.
Pre-pandemic, sustainability was one of the most talked about topics in fashion, with brands facing increasing pressure to become more sustainable.
But with the world grinding to a halt, will sustainability be put on the back-burner, or is this the push the industry needs to tackle its environmental issues?

Questions:
Q1: How are the current circumstances affecting you and your career?
Q2: Many people are being financially affected due to being laid off, put on furlough or taking pay cuts. And living in isolation has led to many of us prioritising essentials and basic needs.
How do you think this will affect our consumption habits when life goes back to normal?
Q3: If we see a stronger push for sustainability post-pandemic, who do you think will initiate change?
Q4: Sucharita Kodali, Vice President of Forrester Research said: “if wealth evaporates, if businesses have to do significant layoffs, concerns about sustainability will go by the wayside”. What are your thoughts on this?
Q5: The months post-coronavirus will be a significant indicator of where brands’ priorities lie. It will be interesting to see whether sustainability really is high on the priority list as many brands claim.
What do you think the impact on brands will be if they choose to de-prioritize sustainability?
Q6: Which sustainability initiatives have you seen recently that you are hopeful for?
Q7: With COVID-19 causing issues from manufacturing to sales, could we see a rise in digital and VR garments?
Q8: Where do you see the fashion industry in 2021?
