Although we’re starting to decompress from fashion month, our community on TikTok are still going strong: reliving key, viral moments and collection analyses from the last month. One of which being Sunnei’s SS23 show in Milan. There was a lot of twin action this season, what with Gucci casting over 70 sets of twins in their show, but Sunnei did things differently.
Starting the show as normal, things soon took a turn for the better – with members of the audience getting up and taking to the catwalk, before heading back through a revolving door to the backstage area. In what seemed like an instant, their twin appeared back on the runway, showcasing an entirely different look from Sunnei’s new collection. It was a spectacle on a spectacle – audience participation and twin-illusions – which led to a lot of animated reactions from the actual audience.
Over on TikTok, CULTED re-posted a clip which chronicled these reactions in all their glory: zoomed in, pointed out, and replayed just so you didn’t miss ‘em. Garnering 530,000 views and counting, it’s safe to say Sunnei caused a stir in the CULTED community. Here’s what you had to say about the stunt.
Coming in with the top comment is idakim38, who said that they “would just walk up there even if am not part of the gang😆”. They saw the opportunity and took it – who would know? Plus you could add ‘walking at Milan Fashion Week’ to your CV. Genius. It seems this was a popular sentiment – Knebbe asks “So technically a guest could’ve just walked the show without people knowing?😅” Exactly Knebbe, exactly.
Some of you felt it would make for an uncomfortable viewing experience if you were watching the show in person. BLU said “Id have trust issues 😭😭like who next is gonna leave ??😭😭”. We get it – there’s a distinct type of terror that comes with unanticipated audience participation, but normally only in theatre shows, or overenthusiastic holiday resort performances. Don’t ask.
However, the majority loved it – one user noted “I like this, it shows the audience that anyone can wear the clothes. This is really smart marketing”. It’s true – it’s definitely got people talking. Other compliments raining in range from calling Sunnei’s stunt “creative”, “original”, “hilarious” or just “FARKING BRILLIANT”, which is a adjective selection we couldn’t help but include here and agree with.
Whether you were here for it or not, we’ve got to agree with BlackTop ‘s comment, who related Sunnei’s show to the rest of the shows we’ve seen so far and their respective spectacles: “creativity in runway shows this year is off the roof”. With this, Gucci, Coperni and countless other spectacles this fashion month, they’re not wrong – this may just be the season that people are getting excited about fashion again.
