Super Bowl halftime shows are one of those kinds of events that, whether you tune in or try to avoid it, you’re going to see it. With some of the biggest pop stars performing there, from The Weeknd to the Black Eyed Peas, the halftime show never misses on its guest list. This year, the NFL listened and gave us Rihanna. Probably becoming one of the most hyped up shows, CULTED reposted Rihanna’s opening and her performance of ‘Run This Town’, and let’s just say that with over 14 million views combined, you (and us) are obsessed.
Commenting in all caps seems like an appropriate response to Rihanna’s performance, with @simpforspidey3 saying “SHE IS EVERYTHING”. The sentiment was shared by @love_xenon when she commented “SUPER BOWL WHO? IT’S RIRI BOWL”. Even though Rihanna was the only performer on stage, accompanied by her 80 dancers of course, we can easily say she stole the show, considering more people tuned in for the performance than the actual NFL game.
Though some wished she had brought in other artists to share the experience with, including @belencruz612 who said “but where were the guests to sing with her????”. @kaylynne_k said “her performance was slaying but definitely could have had more hype and more lights”. Can’t make everyone happy RiRi.
But the hard-core fans clapped back with @marylinfoster9753 commenting “I love the fact she did this on her own this was truly her moment”. @realcali24 was also to come quick to Rihanna’s defence, saying “people r so rude saying they expected more like she was floating in the air in the beginning what more do u want people she did amazing”.
Apart from the incredible production, Rihanna shocked us all with the reveal of her second baby bump. @anderson_kelsie sums it up pretty well by saying “when i tell u my jaw dropped. @shadykayteex80 is thinking ahead for Rocky and Rih’s second child – “Imagine asking to see pics of your mom when she was pregnant w you, and she whip out this video”.
Opinions aside, it’s hard to discredit Rihanna for her undeniable talent. Her performance ranked second in all time viewership of the Super Bowl’s halftime show, with Katy Perry’s 2015 performance still wearing the crown. I think we can (almost) all agree with @christinerusso0801’s opinion though, as she said “i’m sorry this was so elevated compared to all the others. production epic”.
