Could Instagram Reels replace TikTok? At this point the obvious answer seems to be no. The response to Reels has been unenthusiastic, with many people just not seeing the need for it given TikTok’s popularity.
And the world of fashion has certainly embraced TikTok – Celine tapped Noen Eubanks for a campaign last year, and even based their latest show around eBoy culture. At this stage it’s hard to judge whether brands and people will use Reels in the same way, given that IG might be a little too late to the party.
But with that in mind, Instagram received the same lukewarm response when it launched Stories, following Snapchat’s success, and the same with the YouTube-like format IGTV. And now look at us, we’re all posting Insta stories on the daily, and IGTV and Insta Live have spiked in popularity during lockdown.
So with fears of TikTok being banned in the US and other countries, could we see a rise in popularity for Reels?
We want to hear what you guys think.
