Commuknitty is inviting all fashion fanatics to join the discussion around emerging talent at London Fashion Week this season. Their initiative titled ‘Commuknitty TALKS’ will host guest speakers such as fashion industry mogul Cozette McCreery and Vogue Runway’s Steff Yotka. Together they aim to explore what London Fashion Week’s identity means, and discuss what it represents for students, designers, communicators, or simply fashion enthusiasts. The funds raised from this event will benefit the Emergency Designer Network and the NHS.

This series of online panel discussions comes at an important time for emerging talent, after the pandemic affected and continues to affect many creative opportunities in the industry. Commuknitty hopes for its special guests and listeners to share advice and discuss alternative routes in fashion. The network of creatives was formed in May 2020, when Loop Studio, Knitster LDN and Kaysha Sinclair joined forces to form Commuknitty, which is best described as a network of knitters and designers. Speaking about their ethos, Commuknitty states “Just like the way many stitches come together to form a great knit, Commuknitty aim to unite the huge breadth of talent and skill in the creative industry to be a force for good”..

For their launch, they called upon existing clients of theirs to each design an exclusive one-off piece to be auctioned. The funds raised were then donated to the Emergency Designer Network, and were also used to purchase materials to produce scrubs for hospitals and care homes. The platform has since become a space to empower young talent looking to get into the fashion industry by creating a community that is more diverse and accessible for young people who are often overlooked.

‘Commuknitty TALKS’ will kick start on February 23 at 8PM (GMT) on Zoom. Head over to Eventbrite to purchase your ticket for £6 and get involved! Again, the funds raised will directly benefit the Emerging Designer Network and the NHS.
