Stuck for plans this long weekend? Thanks to Lizzy serving 70 years on the throne, we’re gearing up for a long weekend and celebrations have been planned across the UK – but no one does it like Burberry. As an official ‘Platinum partner’ of The Queen’s Jubilee this June, the British brand is pulling out all the stops to mark the celebrations. From supporting Superbloom and launching a zero-waste floating meadow, to releasing a commemorative scarf and artwork campaign, Burberry is championing the Best of British – and you can visit.
Designed to celebrate flora, fauna and the pollinators that will benefit from the project, the Burberry Floating Meadow is a zero-waste installation on the Thames that does exactly what it says on the tin. Floating through the city from its mooring next to Tower Bridge, the meadow is filled with over 5,000 plants, meant to replicate the foliage found in English rivers.
Often found on riverbanks such as the Thames, the meadow highlights the role natural grasslands and marshes play in storing carbon, and that flowering species play in providing food and nectar to pollinators and common riverside wildlife, as part of the brand’s commitment to addressing the climate crisis for the Jubilee celebrations.
Spelling out ‘BURBERRY’, the materials used to build the garden include 1.4 tonnes of recycled plastic collected from rivers – including the Thames which the meadow floats on, and which will be recycled and reused after the project comes to a close. Sustainability is at the heart of the installation – from the repurposed river waste building the plastic lettering, to the meadow maps being made from paper which you can plant. The meadow is available to visit until the 5th June, bookable online.
