Yesterday, the anonymous British artist Banksy, released an online store called Gross Domestic Product.
Banksy is selling his own merchandise, to protect his brand against other companies trying to trademark his name, and as you’d expect, this definitely isn’t your ordinary online shop.
While some pieces are more lighthearted, like a mug, and a t-shirt showcasing his famous girl with the love heart balloon, other items reflect the artist’s social and political views.
One item for sale is Banksy’s stab-proof vest, that Stormzy wore at Glastonbury.
This piece making a statement about Britain’s knife-crime crisis and racial inequality in the crime justice system.
On sale is also a baby mobile, made of 19 mini CCTV cameras, aimed to prepare young ones “for a lifetime of constant scrutiny”.
Banksy is also preventing art dealers from buying his products by making all potential buyers answer one special question: “why does art matter?”, which an independent judge will review, only accepting the funniest and most insightful answers.
So, are you into it?
