By now, we’re all aware of the terrible bush fires in Australia.
The natural disaster has killed an estimated 25 people and half a billion animals.
To help fight the fires, Kering, the mother company of brands like Gucci and Balenciaga, has donated 1 million AUD towards relief.
Kering also announced on Wednesday that they have plans to get involved in reforestation and biodiversity programs.
Balenciaga has just released a white hoodie and T-shirt range in aid of the Australian fires.
100% of the profits from the items will be donated to a local conservation organisation in Australia.
This all seems great, but perhaps it would better if brands stop creating as many products altogether, to help fight climate change.
The BOF commented in an article: “the disaster has increased the pressure on brands to show they care about climate change, offering a grim picture of the potential future for retail if nothing is done. ‘
When discussing Kering and Balenciaga’s contributions, Pam Boy told CULTED:
“Do we need any more products? That’s the only question we need to ask ourselves as an industry. Overproduction and overconsumption are lethal for the planet”
In short “Just write a goddamn cheque”.
What do you guys think brands can do to really drive positive change?
