Balenciaga Brought the Apocalypse with AW20.

It’s CULTED with your RUNWAY RUNDOWN.
Demna Gvasalia just unveiled his dystopian AW20 collection for Balenciaga. And as always a serious statement was made, leaving the audience distressed. Last season he transported us to The European Parliament. This time around it was a dramatic comment on the changing climate.
Rows of seats were plunged underwater, while models splashed through in Balenciaga rain boots. The ceiling saw changing visuals of thunderstorms, churning water, blazing fires and a solar eclipse. In the words of Robin Givhan “even the birds were fleeing”.
The collection was mainly black with bursts of colour. We saw black trenches completed with hoods, lifted lapelles and the classic Balenciaga padded shoulder.
A top fully embellished with safety pins stood out along with a latex spiked jacket that gave us serious Hellraiser vibes.
Leather biker gear was also featured, as well as bright football kits. Lunchbox clutches and toolbox bags added finishing touches to the looks.
The end of the show saw a shift towards lycra with morph suit style looks and asymmetrical ‘all-inclusive’ wrap dresses.
With Balenciaga returning to Haute Couture in June, we can’t wait to see what Demna Gvasalia comes up with.
What did you think of the collection?
