The 2020 BAFTAs took place last night at the Royal Albert Hall.

This year, the BAFTAs urged its attendees to make sustainable red carpet choices, to become a Carbon Neutral awards ceremony. The awards body gave everybody who attended a sustainable fashion guide, suggesting that guests re-wear something they already owned, rather than wear something new or custom made.

But, disappointingly it seems that most celebs didn’t get the memo. Daisy Ridley wore a custom Oscar de la Renta, and Scarlet Johannsson turned up in a custom Atelier Versace. We also saw Margot Robbie and Lily-Rose Depp in both Pre-fall and Spring/Summer 20 Chanel looks.

Thankfully a handful of stars did their bit to help push a ‘green carpet’.

Saoirse Ronan wore a Gucci dress upcycled from discarded satin and The Duchess of Cambridge wore an Alexander McQueen dress she had previously worn back in 2012.

But, perhaps the most eco of the night was Joaquin Phoenix who wore a Stella Mccartney tux he’s promised to wear all awards season.

The BAFTAS also served a vegan starter and dessert.

But is this enough? Should awards ceremonies enforce stricter guidelines on sustainability?

Let us know your thoughts below.
