Athleisure is taking over fashion, and here is why…

Streetwear and dressing for comfort have been taking over our wardrobes in the past few years, and no doubt many of us have been dressing for nothing but comfort over lockdown.

Besides being given a chance to reflect on whether or not we actually need half of the things that we buy, many of us have realised that we actually don’t own that many comfy clothes. This led to a staggering 97% year-on-year increase in activewear sell outs in the UK, as reported by tracking firm Edited.

As a result, whilst many brands in the fashion industry have struggled, others including mega brands like Nike and Adidas have seen a spike in online sales. High luxury has been particularly hard hit – perhaps the reason Louis Vuitton was quick to release exercise gear back in April.

This change in our consumption behaviour means that, in the post-pandemic period, there is a great opportunity for brands that combine athleisure and luxury seamlessly. Think Casablanca with its whole leisurewear line.

So guys, have you been copping athleisure during lockdown?
