Are We In Danger Of Losing Fashion Exhibitions?

Music by: Die Arkitekt – Wilmheim

It’s CULTED with your 60-second FASHION BLAST.

Do you enjoy indulging in fashion exhibitions, like the V&A’s iconic Savage Beauty collection, or Dior’s Designer Of Dreams? Well, if the answer is yes you might want to sit down.

Cecil Beaton’s Bright Young Things exhibition was in the works for 4 years but its stint was short and sweet when it was forced to close just one week after opening due to lockdown. Now, the National Portrait Gallery where it was displayed will be closed until 2023 for refurbishment. And this is the case for exhibitions across the world.

The hashtag #savethearts has been circling among individuals working across the industry to request further funding from the government caused by the financial strain of the pandemic.

The good news is that Boris Johnson has confirmed that exhibitions will be permitted in England from 1 October 2020, but that’s still a while away. With doors already closed and the majority moved online, it seems an LCD screen will be the only material any of us will be pouring over for a while.
