As the seasons change and the weather gets warmer, fashion is preparing for the summertime by releasing their Summer 2023 collections. In this week’s Friday Roundup, New Era takes inspiration from American road tripping for a range of trucker caps and The North Face drops is UE collection. DR. MARTENS’ JADON BOOT TURNS 10 YEARS OLD

To celebrate the decade anniversary of the emblematic Jadon Boot, Dr. Martens is tracing back its history as a symbol of subcultural identity and counter-culture symbol. The British shoemaker brand has teamed up with photographer Tommy Ton, fashion critic Bryan Boy and the rest of its community to highlight the significance of the shoe. Former creative director Damien Wilson stated “People were starting to dress a little bit more extreme, and that’s Dr. Martens stomping ground, so that’s where we started”.

GET SUMMER READY WITH LACOSTE’S EYEWEAR DROP

Lacoste just announced the release of its new eyewear collection, perfect for the pending sunny days we’re hoping are right around the corner. Featuring sporty and urban frames in a variety of cool blue, deep red, and soft pink colour ways emblazoned with the signature Lacoste croc motifs, the collection’s come at exactly the right time.

THE NORTH FACE DROPS ITS UE COLLECTION

This season, The North Face is approaching its explorer nature in a different light with its UE collection. Exploring the connection between the wearer and the world around them, whether urban or natural, The North Face has invited Hans Chyi and Andrea Jiapei Li to work with its creative team to bring the collection to life. Both menswear and womenswear in earthy, natural tones can be found in the range, now available on The North Face’s website.

AIMÉ LEON DORE GIVES ITS NYC FLAGSHIP A MAKEOVER

After months of renovation, Aimé Leon Dore’s NYC Mulberry Street flagship store has just reopened with a brand new look. Sophisticated, the store is adorned with wooden walls and decorated with hints of forest green on curtains and seating. The store, along with the overall brand, reimagines what luxury streetwear can look like, by creating an intimate space that features a wall of crushed basketballs and its collaborative Porsche 356 by the entrance.

ACNE STUDIOS LAUNCHES ITS PLATT CRACKLE BAGS

For Summer 2023, the Swedish brand Acne Studios is releasing a brand new bag series called the Platt Crackle. “Platt” meaning flat, the bag has a narrow, almost 2D appearance and is made from Crackle leather. Arriving in 3 different styles – shoulder, mini shoulder and spike – and 3 different colourways, Acne Studios’ new bag series is now available online.

NEW ERA’S TRUCKER HAT IS MADE FOR THIS SUMMER

New Era takes inspiration from 70s American road trips by revisiting the classic trucker cap silhouette in its “Home Of The Trucker” collection. Bringing together 6 styles, the range highlights US cities and states of New York, California, Miami and Los Angeles in an array of different colours. Priced between £23 and £26, the caps are now available on New Era’s website.

MERRELL 1TRL GOES TO THE HEART OF BROOKLYN FOR ITS NEW CAMPAIGN

Titled “The Trail That Comes Before”, Merrell 1TRL’s new campaign highlights the people that make the city, by tapping into Brooklyn’ pigeon keepers. The new campaign also introduces a new silhouette for the brand, the Moab Mesa Luxe 1TRL, which features a waterproof suede, nubuck leather and mesh, as well as reintroducing a past silhouette, the Eagle Luxe GTX 1TRL.

VALENTINO IS ALL ABOUT THE ROCKSTUD

Having been a symbol of the Italian house for over a decade, Valentino is spotlighting the rockstud in its Fall 2023 collection. Found on the Valentino Garavani Rockstud pumps, accessories, and ballet flats, the punk detailing is at the same time representative of a rockstar, non-conformist attitude and a natural entryway into higher bourgeoisie. The rockstud, which has become a house code for Valentino, carries the new collection’s narrative with the slogan “I mean… it’s a rockstud!”

BLACKPINK BECOMES THE STAR IN ADIDAS’ NEW CAMPAIGN

Starring Jennie, Lisa, Rosé and Jisoo, the sportswear giant adidas took to its Instagram to share the new “Home Of The Classics” imagery. Sporting both the Superstar and the Forum sneakers, the K-Pop girl group can also be seen wearing a variety of three-striped clothing, possibly hinting at an upcoming collaboration or partnership in the works.

ARMAND BASI CONNECTS WITH TANIA MARCIAL IN ITS LATEST COLLECTION

Barcelona-born Armand Basi, known to tap into young designers for its collections, has teamed up with the regional talent Tania Marcial to create their Barcelona Loves Me capsule. Deconstructing a long history of gender-conformed clothing, the upcycling designer Marcial reimagines classic pieces, such as a leather trench coat into a two-piece corset and mini skirt or spiking up the classic tourist cap. The full collection is now available on Armand Basi’s website.
