“The future of Comfort is active”. Converse and A-COLD-WALL* are back with an all new silhouette. Enter: the AEON ACTIVE CX, a Converse take on the lifestyle runner. Stepping into the future, this is the skate staple sneakers like you’ve never seen them before.
Breaking convention, the latest release combines Converse’s innovative CX comfort technology with A-COLD-WALL* designer Samuel Ross’ aesthetic and vision; “London subculture and hegemonic disparities through an atypical contemporary lens”.
Converse have already been exploring new directions, tapping into current trends like the oversized sneaker aesthetic, releasing the now-notoriously chunky Converse Run Star Motion sneakers, and slightly pared down Run Star Hike this year. While the previous collaboration with A-COLD-WALL* in 2021, saw Converse classic Chuck Taylors reinterpreted into a lugged work boot, in the latest release, Converse is set to push the boundaries further.
Aside from an all new silhouette, the Aeon Active CX features Converse’s CX toolkit of comfort materials and technologies and precise exploration of ergonomics featuring; a smooth ease of entry with exaggerated heel kick and pull tabs, a unique stretch construction, a new midsole of recycled materials, a cushioned CX foam underfoot, and a stretch mesh-combination upper.
A disruptive design that packs comfort, form, breathability, and stance, with no sacrifice on style, design elements feature a translucent outsole, suede and leather overlays with rounded lines to integrate classic Converse DNA into the future-forward feel. These are then marked with A-COLD-WALL*’S conceptual design codes and avant-garde aesthetic.
Created by the the London-based designer in 2015, A-COLD-WALL* takes inspiration from the British class system, merging working-class uniforms with elements of Savile Row tailoring, and the Aeon CX is no different. Ross’ applies his distinct aesthetic to the sneaker, interweaving the Urban experience of Britain’s working class into the brand’s DNA, highlighting the competing forces of class and environment in the landscape through bold colour combinations and subversive graphic language.
“Built for forward progress”, with its futuristic feel, convention-breaking silhouette, and progressive design and concept, this is not your nineties’ play it safe converse.
The Black/Apple/Green colourway was released 8th of May via the A-COLD-WALL* and Converse websites, and select retailers in-store yesterday.
