Aḍish x SUICOKE FW23 is giving grandma and we’re obsessed. In their latest collaboration, the pair are releasing a new iteration of the ZAVO, a closed-toe slider, which is now available in two earthy colourways and decorated with contrasting, intricate embroidery that would put your nan’s drip to shame.

Whilst the ZAVO’s embroidery might look like it’s been knitted by a team of lovable grandmas, it’s actually an authentic and traditional style of embroidery created by artisans in Occupied Palestine. Not only was the collaboration inspired by said embroidering techniques, but Aḍish and SUICOKE actually worked with the Palestine artisans who’ve inherited the craft to create their limited collection of up-cycled canvas sliders.

Given that Aḍish is a brand born out of Palestine, its appreciation of local’s traditional techniques is often reflected in its work, to the extent that even in a collaboration like this one, Aḍish’s roots still shine through. In a sense, the embroidery on the canvas tops of the ZAVO is a subtle, stylised nod to a deeper sense of personality that all of Aḍish’s designs embody.

Likewise, SUICOKE’s roots have also had an impact on the collection, as the cult Japanese brand is known for its modern, practical style; high-quality materials; and ever important comfort, which is clearly reflected in the ZAVO’s silhouette. The shoe’s canvas face and rubber soles are a combination of comfort and durability, assisted by the functional, velcro straps – perfect for when you need to put them in “sport mode.”

The result of Aḍish x SUICOKE’s third collaboration is an elevated take on a traditional Palestinian craft. One of the most worrying things about traditional styles of design like embroidery is that they’ll fade from existence, unable to compete within fashion’s fast-paced, modern climate. Aḍish x SUICOKE’s new drop is shining a spotlight on the authentic Palestinian craft, showcasing that design doesn’t always have to elevate the new and exclude the old. It can actually utilise both.

If you’re based in North America, you can shop the collaboration on SUICOKE’s North American website and selected global stockists.
